Meet the curious, hilarious, amazing, and passionate group of people that make our team a family.

Mechanical

The Mechanical Engineering sub-team designs and manufactures the entire mechanical system of the car including the suspension, steering, roll cage, and braking systems. They also account for the ballast and weight distribution when making all of their design decisions. They're also our "jacks-of-all-trades," balancing all the needs of the other sub-teams. EE needs a place to mount the battery? No problem - MechE's got that covered.

MechE is also responsible for force analysis on all structural components of the car, accounting for stresses and displacements. They also design to optimize our strength-vs-weight ratio.

The Electrical Engineering sub-team deals with everything with a current running through it. This includes the lithium battery, motor controller and motor, solar panels, main logic board programming, driver interface, car lights, and waterproof connections.

We also do heavy data analysis for the optimization of electrical power draws for maximum runtimes as well as weather analysis to determine charging points. This design cycle we have also developed Infotainment, a graphics program that integrates Apple Carplay into the car.

Aero/Composites

The Aerodynamics and Composites sub-team deals with all matters of composite materials and air-flow optimization of the vehicle. We use advanced software including Autodesk CFD, Solidworks, and ANSYS to design the most optimal vehicle. We validate these results with extensive wind tunnel testing done during IAP.

The Aero/Comp sub-team is also in charge of the lay-up process of our car, which includes designing the aero-shell for mold making, sourcing molds and materials, and planning the very complex full-body lay-up.

Business

Business focuses on receiving monetary and in-kind sponsorships for the team. To raise money and source technical parts for the subteams, we reach out to companies, MIT departments, file grants, and more. We also try to expose companies to our team and make the team more well-known through presentations and meetings.

The team also focuses on the strategy to handle SEVT’s funding. We strive to form long-lasting partnerships with our sponsors and notify them of our progress in the production of each car. We ensure that our sponsors know how grateful the team is anytime we are given donations.

Media

Media helps make sure the team is well-publicized on many platforms and brings updates to any interested parties. We maintain the website and social media accounts as well as ensure that any made through social media is addressed. To attract more members, we create promotional media such as videos and posters for recruitment. Every month, we send out newsletters to inform our supporters of our progress on each car.

The team is also responsible for designing any merchandise the team wants. Whenever you see a solar car member wearing a solar car shirt or decorating their computers with SEVT stickers, know that it was the media team behind it.
